Quest to Disprove Evolution
A researcher sets out on a journey to disprove evolution and ends up in a PhD program,
with many more questions than when she started.

Brenda grew up immersed in Peru‘s incredible biodiversity, but in a world that didn‘t believe in evolution.
Evolution, she was taught, has too many gaps and guesses.
Quest to Disprove Evolution
An inquisitive child, Brenda asked questions about life's diversity and origin. She was always given answers that offered her an alternative to evolution.

She was left unsatisfied.

When a question is intertwined with your entire understanding of the world, it‘s not easy to brush it aside.

Brenda was not able to brush her questions aside. The people around her had already grown weary of her questioning and were set in their ways.
So Brenda made a decision -
In hopes to put her mind at ease, she set out on a

Diving deeper
Following her studies in Peru, Brenda continued her journey in South Korea, diving deeper into the mysteries of life and in her quest to understand evolution.
Diving deeper
In the lab, Brenda studied the development of animal embryos, focusing on annelid worms, like the leech.

In leeches, Brenda found genes that are also present in other animals (being used similarly to leeches) giving further evidence how we all evolved from a common ancestor.

In Peru, she studied the differences in ants based on their physical appearances.

And now she is presently in Sweden and part of the EvoCELL network applying highly advanced methods to uncover evolutionary questions on a cellular level.

But as we grow older, the questions become more complex and many of them unanswerable.
It is easier to accept an answer, whatever it might be, because the unknown is uncomfortable.

It is easier to accept an answer, whatever it might be, because the unknown is uncomfortable.
However, replacing it with
“I don’t know”
could lead us so much further.
It can be the beginning of a long
and interesting journey.

Which can open conversations and change one’s own understanding of the world.
When we follow a question,
we are likely to end up with many more.
